        I have enjoyed drawing and creating art for as long as I can remember.  My father is an accomplished artist, so this came naturally to me and was encouraged by those around me.  I studied Graphic Design at Kendall College of Art and Design, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in 1986.  After working in the graphic design field for a number of years, I began freelancing and started raising a family.  In 1996 I went back to school, to Aquinas College, to obtain teaching certification.  I taught in various school art positions and also provided private and group instuction.
        During this time I began exploring pastels and gourd art.  I found it very exciting and realized that many other activities, although worthy pursuits, had taken precendence over creating art that I chose to create.  Once I began creating works of art agian, I wanted this aspect of my personality to develope into a career that can bless others while helping to support our family.  I continue to remain open where God is leading me with this creative gift from Him.
        My husband Doug and I began doing art shows in 2001, selling original art, prints, gourds, and barnwood lamps and furniture.  In 2003 I began doing murals, decorative painting, and faux finishes for clients.  This area of my artistic pursuits is my daily mainstay business.  Murals have ranged from 4 feet to 90 plus feet in length, and encompass whatever style or content the individual desires. 
        We recently incorporated under a title that encompasses these various artistic pursuits - by His design Inc.  This umbrella name is based on the Bible passage in Revelation 4:11.

                          "You  are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power,
                      for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being."

We are all created in God's image and reflect Him in various ways.  I and my artwork are not to be the focus, but the reflection to those around me of an awesome creator God.  My goal is to use my abilities for something larger than myself - to further God's kingdom here on earth.  May you be blessed by Him today!
